Smørrebrød is Denmark’s national dish, consisting of open-faced sandwiches served on dense, dark rye bread called rugbrød. The name translates to "butter bread," reflecting the essential base of buttered bread topped with savory ingredients like fish, meat, eggs, or cheese.

You’re supposed to eat it with knife and fork, which is very easy.
But yeah, smørrebrød can be amazing, and those two look delicious.
I’m Danish, and a chef! So I’ve made like a thousand smørrebrød, probably more.
It has a rich history and tradition, and is a specific education you can get in denmark. It takes like 2 yrs i think, and a professional smørrebrød maker is called a “Smørrebrødsjomfru” or a butterbread maiden/virgin.
Fun fact: in traditional smørrebrød you’re not supposed to see the bread, as in so many toppings that the bread is completely obscured.
Some people will get mad about seeing the bread
We invented cutlery some years ago. its not that complicated with those 2 tools, knife and fork; they are called 😉
I know what I’m cooking next, Danish cuisine
Us German’s love our “Butterbrot” too, a good bread made by a skilled baker with high quality cold cuts or cheese on top can be heaven.
Overrated dish. That bread is dry as fuck.
