The 10-year-old Portland offshoot of a San Francisco Italian restaurant has closed due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the restaurant wrote on social media, adding to this summer’s growing list of Portland restaurant and bar closures.
“We know this is a bummer,” the announcement reads.
Seasoned restaurant operator Jack Krietzman opened Fillmore Trattoria in the converted Northwest Portland house once home to fine-dining restaurant Noisette in 2016. That was more than 20 years after launching his similarly named Jackson Fillmore Trattoria in San Francisco.
The self-described “homestyle Italian restaurant” specialized in house-made pastas, lightly fried antipasti. seafood and meat mains, according to an Eater PDX preview from 2016.
In a review that same year, the Portland Mercury wrote that while the restaurant won’t win any awards for trendiness, “it’s got a mean red sauce.”
In its closure announcement, co-owners Spencer and Emma Gwin hinted that reopening could be in the cards.
“We appreciate over 10 years of love and support we have received from Portland and we will be taking the next month to assess our options for reopening,” the announcement read. “Thank you all for your support and patience as we navigate this difficult time.”
Fans of the restaurant lamented its unexpected closure.
“This breaks my heart,” one commenter wrote. “Fillmore has always been one of our favorites.”
“Our most favorite restaurant and celebration place,” wrote another. “We love you guys and hope this is just a temporary thing. No one does risotto like you do!”
