After only a year and a half, a well-known Italian restaurant from New York has closed its Miami location.
Rosemary’s, first opened in the West Village by founder Carlos Suarez, has shut down at 322 NW 25th St. in Wynwood. Google and Yelp confirm the closing, as does the restaurant’s answering service.
Suarez, who grew up in Coral Gables in the 1990s, opened Rosemary’s locations in Tokyo, the East Village and Midtown Manhattan before finally tackling Miami’s fickle culinary scene.
The 7,000-square-foot restaurant in Wynwood, which opened early in 2025, was built on the site of a former shoe warehouse and empty lot and was known for its extensive outdoor garden with beds of greens, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers throughout.
There was no explanation for the closing. But an outdoor garden, no matter how beautiful and lovingly designed or how innovatively used in the menu, is susceptible to the whims of Miami’s humid, rainy, extraordinarily lengthy summers.

The restaurant, which paid special attention to pasta dishes and seafood, also opened at a time when Italian restaurants were popping up everywhere in the Wynwood neighborhood. Ultra luxurious Sparrow Italia is located just down the street.
Suarez told the Miami Herald in 2025 that he felt Rosemary’s could set itself apart from the competition.
“We’re really trying to lean into local sourcing and growing our produce,” he said. “We’re low key, high quality. We want to prove great dining experiences don’t need to be expensive or flashy, and they definitely don’t need to be expensive.”
Rosemary’s restaurants in the West Village, East Side and Midtown remain open, according to the restaurant’s website.
