My last harvest of 2026! I planted in early March. Fruit set later than I expected 7-10 days so not horrible). I battled BER, yellow leaves, and spider mites. I just couldn’t get ahead of one before being hit by another issue! We’re in 10a and I usually have some stragglers through Thanksgiving so I’m disappointed but I called it this weekend. I tore down all my vines and will yank them today or tomorrow. Sad but everything left was diseased or infested. I’m going to clear the planters out completely, disinfect, and start again in the spring. I have a greenhouse so maybe I’ll try some tomatoes in bags inside over the winter. I think I’ll attempt a tomato pie for dinner and a bruschetta to can tomorrow. I have a few bags frozen for sauce later in the year. Overall it’s been super hot and humid and quite disappointing! 🍅

I feel your pain, my first proper season has been a challenging one, with almost daily rain during June and July. Most of my plants have blight and some are on their last legs.
On a brighter note, you have a beautiful harvest! Hope it gives you lots of delicious sauce and tasty pies 🙂

Oh nooooo! What happened? Nvm, I just read the whole post. I’m not sure if anyone believes in this method. Between crops I use Barley straw. Barley straw is an all natural soil sterilizer. It’s been working well for me.
