Cook injured, customers evacuated during fire at small Kentucky city’s oldest restaurant - Dining and Cooking

CADIZ, Ky. (WSMV) – An old restaurant in southern Kentucky had to be evacuated after a fire sparked on Monday night.

According to a report from WKDZ, the Cadiz Fire Department responded to a fire at The Cadiz Restaurant just after 8 p.m. on Monday.

There were patrons reportedly in the restaurant at the time, and all, including staff, were evacuated safely, according to WKDZ.

Cadiz Fire told WKDZ that the fire was found in the wall behind the grill, and the grill cook attempted to put it out but was unsuccessful. The cook reportedly required treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene.

Firefighters climbed up on the roof of the three-story building to access the flames on the top floor. They made quick work of the fire, but damage to the upper floor was extensive, according to WKDZ’s report.

The top floor above the restaurant reportedly used to be apartments, but has since been used for storage by the restaurant owner, WKDZ reported.

The Cadiz Restaurant is the small city’s oldest operating restaurant, as it has been serving food and drinks for more than six decades, according to WKDZ.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The restaurant will be closed for some time during the repair process, but the owner told WKDZ that she definitely plans to reopen.
