Popular Maine lobster restaurant closes, will be sold at auction

Adam BartowLINCOLNVILLE, Maine —

Another popular restaurant in Maine has closed.

The owner of McLaughlin’s Lobster Shack at Lincolnville Beach announced on Tuesday that he has closed the restaurant for good, as of this past Sunday. The restaurant opened in 1956.

Rick McLaughlin wrote on Facebook that he has decided to retire from the restaurant business due to health concerns and the long hours required to run a restaurant.

“It’s been a privilege to serve you at Lincolnville Beach in three locations for the past 48 years. I thank the many family members and employees who have made this possible,” he wrote.

McLaughlin said the building and business will be sold at auction with the Keenan Auction Company on October 2. He said he and his wife hope someone will continue to run a restaurant at the location.

He also said that, if he does not accept a bid, he does have other options for the business, which is located on Route 1.
