LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – Local public safety agencies are gearing up for a friendly culinary battle to support neighbors in need.
The Leland Fire Department, Leland Police Department and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office will face off to determine who makes the area’s best homemade chili. Now in its fourth year, the event challenges first responders to win over the community while serving up samples, with all proceeds benefiting Manna Ministries.
Residents can cast their votes by purchasing $1 tickets or donating canned goods. Last year’s competition brought in over 200 canned food items and raised more than $500 for the local charity.
Aside from chili tasting, the gathering features yard games, face painting, a beer garden showcasing local brews and a live performance by country artist Michael Schott, with an opening showcase from North Brunswick High School.
The Battle of the Bowls will take place Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Founders Park. The showcase will begin at 5:45 p.m.
Overflow parking will be available at First Baptist Church on Village Road.
