A new fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant just north of Greenwood is soft-opening on Saturday with a community meal.

CAVA is offering a free meal with a requested donation to Pack Away Hunger, an Indianapolis nonprofit that distributes nutritious meals to food pantries, schools, and community centers in central Indiana.

People who wish to attend the Saturday event are asked to register for a time slot for the event “Join us for Community Day at US 31!” on Eventbrite.com. The restaurant will be matching donations up to $1,000, the event says.

The restaurant is located at 8674 U.S. 31 South, Indianapolis. It will fully open to the public on Monday, following the event on Saturday.

With Mediterranean-inspired bowls, pitas, dips and dressings, the fast-casual restaurant chain serves delicious food that helps people eat well and live well. These menu offerings, combined with an emphasis on hospitality and serving others, have created diverse, passionate followers who flock to new restaurant openings, according to a news release.

“Our mission is to bring heart, health and humanity to food, and everything we do at CAVA is grounded in that spirit of generosity, to our guests, our team members, and our community,” Gino Carlin, CAVA regional director, said in the release. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be in Greenwood and continue growing our presence in the Indianapolis area.”

The Community Day program is part of the brand’s ongoing campaign to fight food insecurity. Since 2019, the company has raised more than $1 million in monetary and food donations for organizations working to combat food insecurity across the country, the release says.

CAVA’s new Greenwood restaurant will employ 25-40 local residents. The company hires people for their hospitality and warmth and is dedicated to creating career pathways for its team members. CAVA offers competitive pay and benefits including paid time off, healthcare, early wage access, an Employee Assistance Program, and free mental health support, the release says.

The restaurant’s daily operating hours are 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. It offers dine-in as well as a pick-up-by-car lane for online and app orders.
