Plans for what could be Wisconsin’s second CAVA, a fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant chain, have surfaced in Glendale.

A developer has submitted initial plans to renovate and expand the vacant, former Boston Market building at 5470 N. Port Washington Road. The renovated multi-tenant commercial building would be home to both a new CAVA and a Mattress Firm, according to city documents.

The city’s Planning and Architectural Review Commission will take up the proposal on Sept. 1.

Plans for Wisconsin’s first-ever CAVA in Greenfield surfaced in Greenfield city documents in January, though there are still no Wisconsin locations listed on CAVA’s website.

The former Boston Market building is currently around 3,100 square feet, but developer Noby Glendale LLC has proposed a 3,200-square-foot addition.

Other site improvements include a new parking lot, driveways, sidewalks, landscaping, Dumpster enclosure, stormwater management facilities, utilities, site lighting and drainage improvements.

CAVA would occupy the northern tenant space, and Mattress Firm would occupy the southern tenant space.

The owner has already been working with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation on updates to the intersection of North Port Washington Road and the Interstate 43 off-ramp to accommodate proposed changes to the site.

The proposal includes 45 parking spaces and an outdoor dining space.

Glendale staff recommended the commission approve the plans with a few conditions, including access easement plans, adding bike parking and updated landscaping.

CAVA did not respond to requests for comment from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Aug. 31.

The building is currently owned by Blackstone WB Glendale LLC, according to Milwaukee County property records.

CAVA is a fast-casual chain specializing in customizable bowls, salads and pita dishes inspired by Mediterranean flavors. The brand has more than 400 restaurants nationwide, according to its website.
