Quick question for the experts here. We recently bought a KamadoJoe (wonderful thing), but my friend started complaining why we didn’t have a support rack. He claims this was original (and included) on his Kamado and protects the stones their lifespan over time?
I made some pictures for reference, but to me it seems like an accessory to carry a pan/pot or some sort?
1st picture is how we usually use it (stones in aluminium though while using). 2nd and 3rd with the new support rack (in which both stones can go on the support rack of course)
Can anyone guide me here?

I am in the same boat. I just bought a used Big Joe 2, and it didn’t come with a support rack or heat deflectors. I thought that I needed both as I saw a YouTube video where the heat deflectors were placed on the accessory rack, so I ordered both.
The heat deflectors arrived first, and I was able to fit that the deflectors just fine without the accessory rack as you have. You do not need the accessory rack for the deflectors (ceramic half circles).
You are correct in that the accessory rack can also be used for hold a pot (a wok would be the most likely candidate) and other things.
I don’t believe the accessory rack helps protects the stones.
I’ve always used the rack with the stones.
