A recall has been issued by LMSI LLC/ Kofinas Olive Oil out of Cincinnati, Ohio, after one of its products was found to include an ingredient “not approved for culinary use.”

According to a recall notice published by the Food and Drug Administration on August 31, the voluntary recall of the brand’s Garlic Mediterranean infused extra virgin olive oil is due to the product’s inclusion of “a garlic essential oil not approved for culinary use.”
The recalled product was sold between August 31, 2025, and August 27, 2026, in glass bottles in 500-milliliter, 250-milliliter, and 100-milliliter sizes at two stores in Cincinnati, Ohio, Montgomery Store & Infusion Kitchen and Findlay Market, as well as online through the brand’s website, kofinasoliveoil.com.

As of publication, there have been no reports of illness associated with the products affected by the recall, but the notice urges consumers who exhibit signs or symptoms of an allergic reaction or of a foodborne illness to contact a medical professional immediately. The recall notice also states that customers who report “any reaction to the oil will receive [a] full refund.”
In addition to the affected products, Kofinas also sells imported olive oil from Crete, infused olive oils with flavors like basil, butter, dill, garlic, orange, and cilantro, as well as balsamic vinegar, honey, and muffuleta spread, an olive-centric tapenade popular for sandwiches.

This recall comes on the heels of a wave of other recent food-related recalls due to a variety of factors, from undeclared allergens in Halloween candy to a Salmonella risk associated with mangoes sold at Walmart stores across several states. The types of products affected by recent recalls vary widely, with a national recall issued for lunchmeat due to a risk of Listeria, and last month’s recall of heat-and-serve deli items and dessert sold at major supermarket chains like Kroger, Publix, and Food Lion.
