I have a Weber Spirit that I got 5 years ago and only used 2 or 3 times and haven’t used it since. I just put a new propane tank in, cleaned out spider webs and leaves, and ran it on 650 for the last hour.

I’m supposed to be having a barbecue tomorrow and would prefer not poisoning myself or my guests, especially because I have a busy weekend after with stuff I can’t miss.

Is this good to cook on? Or should I take extra precautions?

650 for an hour? It’s totally safe

I was told that after 400 degrees nothing will survive. So when I cook (2-3 times a year lol) I will just make sure I get my pit over 400 and then I’ll clean the grates with an onion and im good to go. Never got sick ,but I always do a good burn out before I cook. … also very nice and clean grill in my opinion

Do you remember how to grill? 5 years is a long time.

Also i think you have the small grate in the back upside-down, should sit up higher to keep things farther away from the heat or just to keep things warm or warn up buns or tortillas

Your deflector(flavorizer bars) plates are in wrong.

650 is good. My propane grill burners were rusted so I tried to replace them. The manufacturer wanted 120 dollars for new ones so I ordered 20 dollar burners from Amazon and im lucky to hit 450. It was just a 3 burner grill likely 30k btu to start with. I saw a clearance sale on a pellet grill so bought that thing. Its rated at 45k btu and can hit 500. I set it up 2 weeks ago and they said run until all the white smoke disappears then set it 350 for at least 30 minutes. Let it completely cool and wipe it out with a clean rag. Then its good to go. It had oil in it from the factory I had wash my hands while assembling it as it was very oily. So they magic numbers are 350 or higher and 30 minutes or longer.

The main thing Id worry about are the conditions of the grates. From the photos, they look fine to me.

No, you need to sanitize it with alcohol, run it through a gamma sterilizer, and then electron beam just to be safe. God these constant same questions are dumb.

It was safe before you even lit it. A 10-15 minute preheat would have billed any bacteria on the grates.

Looks like a new grill to me. I’d love for my grill to look like that. Looks like you’re ready to hold your own. Just don’t get caught….😜

It has been cleansed by the holy fire, GRILL AWAY!

  13. Troggles

No I’d turn down the heat first. 650 is way too hot for burgers and dogs.

Bruh it was clean 30-40 mins ago.. use that baby or il take it off your hands 😡

You nuked and renuked any bad organics multiple times over, LOL. I’d wash the grates to remove any ash. Then right before you fire it up on grill day, oil them. But I am not sure any of that is needed.

Lol. That would’ve done the job in 2 minutes.

As a safety precaution, I would just go buy a new Weber Kettle.

How do you go 5 years without using it?

  19. Helpful-nothelpful

No. 661F is the minimum to sanitize the grill. Go ahead and do it again.

If it could survive in there it deserves to get you.

Damn dude how do you not grill for 5 years?

Those spiders lived for generations in that grill. They were just about to invent the wheel before you got started again.
