I was looking it up, and found out you are generally supposed to refrigerate seeds? I have had these in here for months. Do they need to be refrigerated, and should I toss them in favor of some that haven't lost their potency?

Ground flax should be refrigerated because the fats oxidize and go rancid.

I keep mine in the freezer.

I refrigerate my hemp and flax but leave the chia in the pantry.

Whole seeds are great. Put them in a cool dark place and they’ll keep for a long time. But as soon as you break them up or grind them up, the seed protection is gone and oils are susceptible. The healthier an oil, the more this is true.
I just stopped paying extra for someone else to do it (creating all the bother) and make my own as needed, in a dry blender. If ground is all you can find, keep it refrigerated.

Refrigerated or frozen is ideal since a package lasts a while and they can go rancid
