Finally cracked open Catena Zapata’s 2022 Argentino Malbec over an open-fire dinner, pairing it with an amazing steak.
Honestly, this wine is surprisingly much smoother than I ever imagined. The nose is incredibly well-balanced, showing a perfect harmony of wood, leather, dark fruit, and spices. Nothing dominates or feels out of place.
I’d place it right between a medium and full body. It has great structure, but the sheer smoothness and seamless texture almost make it feel lighter on its feet. At 14% ABV, it goes down incredibly easy. Usually, my wife and I take about 2 to 3 hours to finish a bottle over a leisurely dinner. This time? We polished off the entire bottle in under 1.5 hours—long before we even finished our steaks!
Overall, this is a solid 4.4/5 stars for me. I’m definitely going to buy a few more bottles to cellar and see how they evolve with age. Highly recommended!

Great wine, thanks for the notes. We opened a few bottles of the 2019 for my dad’s 80th birthday a few years ago and he still talks about it all the time
