I just bought this molcajete from William Sonoma discounted because it was chipped (looks kind of ground down). However, when I got home I was wondering if it was fake. I poured vinegar into the chipped area and it appeared to bubble/fizz and makes popping sounds. However, when I pour the vinegar into the bowl portion, there is no reaction. When I sawed back and forth with a butter knife, it seemed to leave a line. The photos I posted are of it wet, so aren't so accurate to the color except for parts of tejolote.

The molcajete that I bought from Williams Sonoma three years ago is genuine, but it took a good deal of effort to break in.
It looks like the real deal. TBH, it looks like the one mi tia got me as a gift from Mexico like 20 or 30 years ago.
Did you properly season it? Did any large chunks of stone come off from the tejolote or molcatet? You shouldn’t have much come off at all if it’s real. Concrete will flake like a mofo.
