Mayo of course, but …here is my method.
-
Bacon First.
-
Tomato 2nd
-
Lettuce 3rd.
I sandwich the tomato in the middle to prevent soggy bread. I guess that makes it a "BTL" instead of a "BLT".
Do you agree with this method or do you make yours some other way than this? I was just curious about what are other people doing differently than myself and why? I also like toasted bread but didnt go for that tonight.
What makes the perfect BLT for you? (I used the kellogg's breakfast variety on this sandwich btw)

Some mayo would be great.
Dukes mayo, and a lot more than what you’ve got. Some salt and pepper, and toasted bread. That’s my preference.
Tomato and bacon need to touch mayo. Lettuce in middle.
If I’m making it way ahead of time I might put tomato in the middle, but i don’t really pack BLTs as a lunch, usually a dinner or Sunday lunch where I’ll eat it right away
No mayo? No toasted bread?
My favorite version is on toasted ciabatta, with good mayo on both sides, 6 half strips of extra crispy bacon thad is almost ready to crumble when you pick it up. A slice of tomato that’s thick and is wide enough to cover the sandwich, and then topped with some shaved parm. The real stuff. And one piece of leaf lettuce on top of everything else.
The Sandwich Formula:
Toasted bread slices
Mayo (and/or mustard) on bottom toast piece
Tomato on the mayo toast – mayo oil protects the toast from moisture (a bit) while letting the tomato mix with the mayo (the best part)
Chopped lettuce on the tomatoes
Meat on the lettuce
(Can put slice of cheese here if you want)
Top piece of toast
You do need to eat it IMMEDIATELY due to the moisture
BONUS!!! SANDWICH SALAD:
instead of plain lettuce, shred iceberg lettuce and mix with thinly sliced white onion, sliced hot pickled peppers/ pepperocini / hungarian wax sorta peppers, dressing of oil+ vinegar+ garlic powder+ italian seasoning + black pepper. THIS SHIT IS INCREDIBLE. the only bad part is it doesn’t keep at all so you gotta make it fresh each time.
MORE TOMATO!!!! 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Toast the bread!
2/10
Toasted bread, mayo, tomato, lettuce, bacon X2 layer, lettuce, tomato again.
That bread looks like something being served in the Navy right now
I did not have any fresh lettuce but did have some big basil leaves so I made a BBT. Bread, mayo, bacon, basil, tomato, mayo, bread. It was amazing and will now be my preference every summer.

You need at least double the amount of tomato. The tomato is the star of this sandwich, not the bacon (which I’d prob do a little more of too). And toast your bread you sicko.
Boars Head chipotle mayo and a sprinkle of smoked sea salt on the tomato. Toasted bread, sharp cheddar, real smoked bacon, iceberg lettuce. Perfection. Sometimes I forget the bacon.
You must have mayonnaise
Tomato must touch the mayo.
That’s my only hard BLT rule. The tomato combining with the mayo creates its own sauce that is integral to the best possible flavor on a BLT. You learn this if you eat tomato sandwiches.
Toasting the bread isn’t optional. Also, splurge for good bread. A good bit of mayo. Salt and pepper your tomatoes about an hour ahead if possible.
It looks great, the tomatoe is stunning. Everyone has their sandwich preferences, but bravo on the beautiful yellow against the contrast of the bacon. If in the future a flavor in the combination makes you want to change it, maybe you will. But maybe, because it is just that good, it doesn’t need anything else.
Gotta toast the bread just a little. Also mayo and black pepper.
Black pepper on the mayo is a must.
More tomato, no lettuce, mayo on both sides, salt and pepper, white bread. I know this is not technically a BLT, but lettuce is pointless. Tomato is the Star. Even bacon is optional.
I’ve been making BATs. Turkey Bacon, Avocado, and Tomatoes. So yum! 😋
Is that a persimmon (tomato)?
I enjoy the BLT in any order. But I use Caesar dressing instead of mayonnaise and the anchovies are such a savory audaciousness in my sandwich.
Salting the tomato is crucial.
If you’re out of mayo, and that was the last tomato…A+!
Use toasted sourdough. Use mayonnaise. Some salt and a lot of fresh ground pepper. 🤌

Why do people make BLT’s with such a thin layer of bacon? For me, it’s not worth it unless the bacon is this thick.
