FDA Announces Recall on Kofinas Garlic Mediterranean Olive Oil—Here’s Everything You Need to Know

If you use garlic-infused extra virgin olive oil, check the label. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published a voluntary recall announcement on August 31 from LMSI LLC/Kofinas Olive Oil company of its Garlic Mediterranean infused extra virgin olive oil.

The reason for the recall: the olive oil contains a garlic essential oil not approved for culinary use. Although the announcement doesn’t specify any specific illness or reaction that consuming the olive oil could cause, it does state, “Individuals exhibiting signs or symptoms of an allergic reaction or foodborne illness should contact a physician immediately.” The good news: the company says it’s received no reports of illness linked to the products being recalled so far.

How can you tell which olive oil products are included in the recall?

Three sizes of Kofinas’s flavored oil are being recalled. Each recalled product was sold in glass bottles, in the following sizes:

The recalled products were available for sale from August 31, 2025, to August 27, 2026. Just two retail stores sold the olive oil: Montgomery Store & Infusion Kitchen and Findlay Market, both in Cincinnati, OH.

However, the products were also sold directly online at www.kofinasoliveoil.com.

What to do if you bought a recalled product

Don’t consume it in any way, and if you’ve already used it for cooking or in meals, monitor yourself for any symptoms. If you feel sick, check in with your health care provider.
