I know this is a fairly common, old school technique, but I never tried it in fear of altering the flavor of my meal. Spoiler: it does **not** alter the flavor at all!
If you have some eggs and some ground meat of any kind, just crack an egg into your meet toward the end and mix it in really well. Not only does it add more protein, but it also adds moisture and richness *without* altering the overall flavor of the dish.
Image: my ground turkey mixture I like to make and freeze to add to dishes later. I’m confident the added eggs have turned this 4-serving pack of ground turkey into 6 servings easily—maybe more!
P.S. tofu can also work, but people sensitive to hormones shouldn’t use that method.
EDIT: yup, I see in 2026 people have forgotten everything’s not about aesthetics. I’m not about to sit here, try to find the best lighting, best angle, best image to literally depict a food hack about feeding more mouths. Some of us are too busy with life. I meal prepped and snapped an image before going about my day. I have seen far worse images posted in here.😂
For those who genuinely considered the hack without being snobs, thank you. I hope it does help you use up your eggs fast and stretch the usage of your ground meat!

Or you can add vegetables, lentils, beans, among other things. I would argue that lentils and beans would be far more filling and push the servings way more than eggs could for the price. With any chilli I make I put a tin of kidney beans, cannellini beans, black beans, and a good bag of bell peppers in it. That’s basically the price of a carton of eggs and way more volume.
I understand you appear to be adding this as a side to another meal, but if you’re looking to make food on a budget I’d be looking to into be making this the base of the meal rather than the side
I could be wrong but I’m also seeing no onions in that, that would add some much needed flavour.
Also if this is the final dish, why don’t you add some chopped tomatoes and give it some more flavour?
I had forgotten about this trick that my mom used to do! Thank you for reminding me!!
Throw one red lentils in there, great for stretching out ground meat
Mine used to throw oats in the blender and cook them with the beef. Texture is like Taco Bell.
Beans or rice would be wayyyy better and that’s not even touching on the misinformation you’re spreading about tofu lol
so can lentils and it looks better.
That looks like vomit but thank you for the tip 👍🏼

Thanks for sharing!
Personally I would keep the ground meat and egg separate. fried eggs on anything is great
looking at that doesn’t look like you care about taste
do you drop it on the floor before or after cooking
Refried beans and then you get fiber too and you can have a lot more left overs!
With all due respect, please post this to r/shittyfoodporn
Beans!!!
Adds fiber and protein and zero added animal sat fats or cholesterol
Also cheap as hell , can easily do 50/50
There aren’t “hormones” in tofu, at least not anything that is going to affect your body.
If you’re on a budget, ditch the ground meat and instead do beans, lentils, tofu, tvp, etc.
We have a misinformed tofu hater here
In Iceland they mix boiled eggs in with Tuna fish sandwichs and they are amazing.
This comment thread is everything that is wrong with reddit.
For fucks sake some of you have no manners.
Holy hell what is wrong with these comments.
Would be an easy reheat whilst getting ready before quickly wrapping up in a breaky burrito.
Or just eat a big fucking bowl of lentils 😂
interesting. I will experiment with this. I have never heard of it, and stretching ground beef without using beans or lentils has been stumping me.
What is the actual meal you were making? If you are making something that already would have eggs in it, why add them into the beef. If you are making something that doesn’t call for eggs, you probably shouldn’t be using eggs since they do change the flavor quite a bit. Also, under no situation should you freeze eggs. That is going to destroy the texture and can cause them to break down and possibly go bad by the time you want to eat them. I know you want to stretch a meal, but just use the foods for what they are. Next you’ll say to add saw dust to bread to make it cheaper
Yea but look at it ..
I mash black beans and mix them into ground beef. A can of black beans is about a dollar so it’s cost effective. They bind the meat together, add moisture, and are high in protein. (They’re also surprisingly undetectible, which is important if you’re feeding finicky kiddos)
Rather add half a tin of tomatoes or passata for a similar price
I eat this a lot. It ain’t much to look at but it’s hearty and filling and you can throw whatever seasoning that suits your mood to add some variety.
I do not like green eggs and ham…
