WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) — A four-alarm fire tore through a popular Williamsburg restaurant Saturday evening, injuring six firefighters and causing extensive damage to the building.
The fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. at Juliette, a French bistro on North Fifth Street between Bedford Avenue and Berry Street. Officials said the flames quickly spread through the roof and caused a partial collapse. More than 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze for about three hours before bringing it under control. Six firefighters suffered minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported.
The restaurant, which has been a fixture in the community for two decades, was left heavily damaged by the fire. Neighbors and customers said they were shocked to see the destruction.
“Smelled smoke first and looked out the window and you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face because there was smoke everywhere.”
“It’s pretty sad, I’ve been there a few times with some friends, so to think about something happening in that restaurant is really sad.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
