Classic Chronicle: Longtime Massachusetts restaurants share the recipes for success

Originally airing in 2005, Classic Chronicle visits longtime Massachusetts restaurants to explore how family traditions, signature recipes and loyal customers helped keep their doors open for decades

At Christo’s in Brockton, owner Christos Saganis tells Classic Chronicle that remaining in business for more than four decades comes from “a good following.” The report says the restaurant, opened in 1955, serves Greek-inspired specialties, including its popular Greek salad and traditional dinners, while Saganis explains that customers return because “it’s the same kind of food. No surprises.” The segment also visits Gregg’s in Watertown, where owner John Diliberto says the restaurant continues preparing its family’s tomato sauce using “the same recipe as our grandmother,” with fresh ingredients made daily.

The program concludes at the Forest Cafe in Cambridge, where owner Sy Gaudet and chef Jimmy Fahey describe how an Irish American bar became known for traditional Mexican cuisine.
