Wraps belong to the broader category of “Utensil-free foods,” colloquially known as handhelds. This category includes not just wraps and sandwiches, but pizza, tacos, burritos, kolaches, runzas, hand pies, klobasneks, turnovers, and many others.
It’s not really a sandwich so much as sandwich-adjacent, but within the broader gastronomic constellation it’s close enough for government work.

No. I base sandwich status on the location of the Carb. Fully ensconced in the carb makes it a wrap, which means a burrito is a wrap. Carb on two sides? Sandwich. Yes, this means open-faced sandwiches aren’t sandwiches to me, they’re tartines.
That being said, love me a wrap and they’re easily the thing I eat most for lunch.
