While complimentary breakfast is a nice amenity, it tends to be quite blasé. After all, your time away should include a vacation from your usual diet, too. With the rise of food-centric social media content, the population seems to have a growing appetite for all things culinary, and hotels around the globe have certainly taken the hint.
This September, Travel + Leisure rounded up the 25 best hotel restaurants in the world, from Indian palaces to British luxury trains. After considering 120 entries, the Travel + Leisure team landed on 25 winners from 17 countries — including one top hotel restaurant right here in the Hudson Valley.

It’s Serre at The Maker Hotel in Hudson!
Housed in a glass conservatory, Serre is an ode to classic French technique reimagined through a modern lens and guided by seasonal ingredients. Previously The Maker Restaurant, Serre launched in spring of this year to reconceptualize the hotel’s culinary direction for its signature restaurant under the leadership of new executive chef Jonas Offenbach, whose experience includes working in Michelin-starred kitchens like New York City’s Gramercy Tavern.
“In French, ‘serre’ means greenhouse: a place where growth is guided with care, patience, and intention. Lightness is a principle at Serre, where food, space, and people come together to create something alive, evolving, and enduring,” says Offenbach. “The cooking is French cuisine through a modern lens, grounded in an atmosphere that feels warm, inviting, and reflective of the creative spirit of the Hudson Valley.”
On the menu at Serre, customers will find everything from East Coast oysters with black plum and elderflower vinegar to wagyu beef bavette with heirloom tomatoes and Bordelaise sauce. “My favorite plates included a spring chicken in vin blanc with maitake mushrooms and cream, and the painstakingly prepared stuffed morel mushrooms,” writes Travel + Leisure reviewer Jess Feldman.
Serre is open daily from 5-9 p.m. for dinner service at The Maker Hotel in Hudson.
