I was speaking with The Tilted Farmer owner Chris Spitzer a few weeks back about just how much I have been enjoying her restaurant, which recently celebrated its second anniversary. The food is inventive and reasonably priced, the quality is always outstanding, and the staff is simply excellent. They are truly firing on all cylinders.

We were talking about some of the creativity in the dishes, like the Beef Funghetto, and she attributed much of that creativity to Chef Dustin Grady and his team. Then she blew my mind when she told me about the upcoming Around the World dinner series.

The series begins Tuesday, Oct. 6, and continues every Tuesday through Dec. 8. Each week features an amazing, reasonably priced and creative entrée from a different country, and you don’t even have to make a reservation. It is simply “the special” that evening. So, over 10 weeks, you can sample food from around the world on a Tuesday night.

I am thinking, “What do I have to do that is cooler than this on a Tuesday night?” The answer is absolutely nothing, so I am all in!

Germany starts the party Tuesday, Oct. 6, with Sauerbraten, which I was just talking about with the hosts at the Oktoberfest fundraising event I prepared for the Medina County Arts Council last week. I have never made Sauerbraten, and it is hard to find this dish on area menus. This will be a great start.

India steps up to the plate Tuesday, Oct. 13, with Murgh Makhani, which I have never had but can’t wait to try. I am a huge Indian food fan, but there aren’t many Indian restaurants close by. This will be fantastic.

Spain takes center stage Tuesday, Oct. 20, with Fish Gazpacho featuring seared monkfish. Yes, please.

Italy rounds out October on Tuesday, Oct. 27, with Pasta All’Ortolana, another dish I have never had but am looking forward to trying.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, takes us to the other side of the world, Australia, where we’ll be eating kangaroo. You heard that right. I was as shocked as you to see this on the menu. It turns out kangaroo meat is an exceptionally lean, high-protein red meat harvested sustainably from wild populations in Australia. I cannot wait for this one!

Japan is up Tuesday, Nov. 10, with Shoyu Miso Salmon. Another winner.

Lebanon’s Lamb Baba Ganoush arrives Tuesday, Nov. 17. I am a huge fan of dishes from this region and love lamb, so I am doubly happy to see this one.

They follow that up with Shakshouka, a dish from Tunisia, on Tuesday, Nov. 24. I will order this one just because it sounds cool — and because I have never had eggs poached in tomato sauce.

A trip to South America wraps up this whole crazy culinary adventure, beginning with Chile on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Pastel de Jaiba, a blue crab Chilean casserole, as the featured entrée. Then, on Tuesday, Dec. 8, the country of Peru is the focus with Ají de Gallina, a mild chicken and rice stew, as the final dish in the Around the World series.

The fact that I can sample the food of 10 cultures in 10 weeks is simply perfect for a guy who often feels a bit too Ohio-bound lately. I will be at as many of these as I can make, and I hope to see some of you there.

By the way, check out their full-page ad in this issue to see all the details and some of the perks of attending multiple nights of this weekly dinner series.

As always, I urge you to eat fresh, dine local and be happy!
