Hot fajitas packed with browned, steak-style TVP strips, peppers and onions—all without buying a steak.
I’ve used my fajita seasoning and finished them with lime for a filling dinner that costs less to put on the table.
The large TVP pieces are soaked, pressed and sliced, then dried briefly in the pan before a light cornflour dusting helps them brown. The peppers and onions cook hot and fast, and the seasoning goes in near the end so it doesn’t burn. Serve in warm tortillas with whichever toppings you like. This version uses beef-derived Bovril for flavour, so it isn’t vegetarian.

  1. I have never seen TVP steaks before. Looks very shelf stable. Good to have on hand for vegetarian homes. Thank you Rik, another interesting recipe and method.

  2. Sadly, I can't get tallow but I can get lard AND, if I'm very careful, I can manage to gather some homemade bacon grease (which I keep in a jar in the fridge) and this would be a great substitute here. Cheers Rik – appreciate you my darling x

  3. Last time I made ground beef I saved the grease from it for something like this. And to the nay sayers, I you dont like it dont watch it, just like if I see something I won't make, I dont watch but still try to pop in and give a like

  4. Wonderful Rik! My mom was vegetarian and would sometimes make chili or other things she liked with tvp and I would have to ask her if it was made with beef or not! No one should discount this unless they try it first. Fajitas may not be their ideal way to first try it but I'm willing to bet that wrapped up with veg and sauces, etc that you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. Awesome originality! ❤

  5. I made your lasagna recipe twice this week and I can’t believe you’ve got more stuff coming, you’ll be responsible for making tvp more expensive than beef, cheers mate!

  6. I like that this has a frugal element. I don't always like eating meat and yes it's expensive. I'll see if something like this is in my area. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Made the lasagne today, I could hardly believe that there was no meat… I'm having a struggle finding unflavoured TVP in South Africa, but I'm going to hunt for these chunks… I have never ate soya before, tasted I twice in my life and detested the taste, but because I've tried your recipes before, I took a chance and it worked out so perfectly… My husband who was also a bit hesitant, literally licked out the bowl!

  8. Rik I love fajita wraps and have always used those shop bought box concoctions but after watching your recipe using tvp of all things i will be making these very soon they look an easy cheap flavoursome healthy alternative to meat 😁As for the meat naysayers as with all your recipes i'm sure they can be easily adapted using chicken/beef or whatever🤔 But until as you say they try this why even contemplate using expensive meat products if the result is almost the same but without the expense🙄come on 👍

  9. Although I'm a meat eater think I shall have a go at this recipe Rik! I have been trying certain plant products etc., vegan/ vegetarian foods over the years, now that they are more available!
Where is the best place to purchase this TVP??? Another great video Rik, keep up the Great Work!!
P.S. The Bovril brings back so many memories! Especially the Cold, Wet, Winter Weather, Freezing, watching the football. 🤣🤣🤣 Several cups of hot Bovril at half time!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Must get some as I've not had a hot cup of Bovril for years!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 All the Best Rik.👍🙏😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧
P.P.S. HYPED AGAIN, AS I ALWAYS DO FOR THE VERY BEST CHEF ON YOUTUBE!!🙏🙏🙏🙏

  10. I just used TVP(mince)to extend ground beef to make two different recipes for dinners and supper time meals for my husband and myself for the week. Both turned out delicious. I couldn’t find Bovril locally so I used a beef base used for soups. I did use lentils and mushrooms. My husband’s only request was to lower the amount of mushrooms, since he isn’t a big mushroom fan. It definitely helps with the weekly food budget. Thank you for showing budget friendly recipes. 😊

  11. Hi, I love the channel. Could you do a recipe using courgettes and tomatoes. As I have a lot of them. Thanks

  12. I love fajitas, either beef or chicken, but normally have it at a local restaurant, except what I bring home. The TVP is a great idea and how you put it all together. What comes home with me are the meat, onions, and peppers, along with sour cream, tomato salsa, avocado guacamole, shredded cheddar and lettuce, that I then turn into a burrito or taco.

  13. A million thanks for the beautiful and budget friendly recipes, this is what we all need. World is getting crazy and everything getting expensive.

  14. Looks absolutely fab Rik. Never seen those large chunks in UK, but will have a search. Definitely going to have a try, even if I have to use the smaller chunks that I have seen, and use yeast extract instead of Bovril to make it vegetarian.

  15. You are so funny, if your allergic, TURN THE CHANNEL. you sir are so awesome, actually the best there is to ickie comments. I absolutly love your style and honesty. Straight forward you are. It's such a pleasure to try new meals made by you, its so speacial to me to have the access to your channel, my gramma and mom have passed, I always learned from them, now I have you and your teachings, im so blessed and thankfull to watch and learn all you teach, sincerly from illinois

  16. We have a new bargain bin store I believe sells some TVP products. I will try some out on my next big shop. As it is I can make several decent products from whole chickens which saves me money.
Ive been looking at a more authentic Mexican diet and meat/pork is often treated as a product for flavoring beans and such.
It is finding the variety of chilis that is a challenge in my remote part of western BC. Tallow is not cheap either unless you buy it in volume which I did recently. I find it excellent for pastries as well.

  17. It looks delicious and don't worry, about the naysayers. I was just wondering, if you thought about doing a 1.5 to double liquid when rehydrating. You can use that excess liquid, with potato starch and use it as a dipping sauce. I have a family friend, that's been a vegetarian for seven years and can't digest meat proteins. I'm definitely, going to try this recipe.
