Paula Löber from the Saale-Unstrut growing region is the 78th German Wine Queen. In the final election on September 25, she successfully competed against four other candidates. The 29-year-old works as a project manager at Rotkäppchen-Mumm sparkling wine cellars. Completing the trio of German wine majesties are Kathrin Knierim from Rheinhessen and Natalie Schäfter from Württemberg.
The event at the Saalbau in Neustadt an der Weinstraße was broadcast live by SWR. The five finalists had to demonstrate their expertise, eloquence, quick-wittedness, and spontaneity on stage through various tasks. One task involved identifying the grape variety of a wine in a blind tasting within 45 seconds and matching it to the correct region of origin.
From the five candidates, a jury of about 70 experts selected the three wine majesties. They had to prove themselves once again in a knowledge game and with a personal speech. Afterwards, the audience in the hall and in front of the screens, together with the jury, chose the new German Wine Queen.
Paula Löber is the second German Wine Queen from Saale-Unstrut after 1993. “As the German Wine Queen, I want to inspire young adults more for our wines and help them gain more visibility. I want to show people that the wines from our regions are a special cultural asset and promise authentic enjoyment,” she explained.
The three German wine majesties will attend about 200 appointments in Germany and abroad on behalf of the German Wine Institute (DWI) for one year. These include trade and public events, fairs, receptions, and wine policy appointments.
