MOREHEAD CITY, Carteret County — Five Carteret Community College culinary students will soon trade the Crystal Coast for the kitchens of Paris.
The students leave Saturday, October 3, for France.
They will study at Ferrandi Paris, a culinary school known around the world.
The trip will also give them a chance to work in professional French kitchens.
For several of the students, it will be their first time leaving the country.
They were selected through a competitive process.
The students have also been taking French classes as they prepare for the trip.
They say they are excited to experience French culture and bring a little eastern North Carolina hospitality with them.
Before leaving, the students will cook closer to home for the first Escoffier Dinner of the season.
The dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, at Carteret Community College’s Hospitality and Culinary Arts Center.
It is the first of four dinners in the series.
The remaining dinners are scheduled for December 8, January 26, and February 23.
The events feature French cuisine and wine pairings.
Proceeds help fund the next group of students traveling to France through the Goellner French exchange program.
