Che Fico, the acclaimed San Francisco restaurant that closed after a damaging June fire, will reopen this month, chef-owner David Nayfeld announced Friday.

“Exciting news! Che Fico will be reopening its doors, October 18th,” Nayfeld wrote on Instagram. “We want to see you all there.”

Reservations are now open, according to Nayfeld.

The California-Italian restaurant at 838 Divisadero St. was forced to close after a June 11 fire on the tightly packed block near Alamo Square.

The San Francisco Fire Department said the fire began in a flue at the neighboring Foghorn Taproom before spreading to the roof area around Che Fico.

In a video Friday, Nayfeld reflected on the response to the closure and the support the restaurant received from customers and neighbors.

“As many of you know, Che Fico suffered a fire this summer, on June 11th,” he said. “And on June 12th, I posted a video telling everybody what happened, and the outpouring of support was just tremendous.”

Nayfeld said the restaurant received thousands of messages from people asking how they could help.

“My response to everybody was, when we reopen, just one simple ask: Please come,” he said. “Please come back. Re-create that energy that room has had since the first day it was open.

“The most beautiful thing about that entire restaurant is the people that are inside those four walls,” he said.

Che Fico opened in 2018 and is known for a California interpretation of Italian food, including handmade pasta, pizza, house-made salumi and other rustic dishes. The restaurant is owned by Nayfeld and Matt Brewer.

In the video, Nayfeld urged customers to book tables and private events for the reopening.

“The lights are going to be back on. That sign, that iconic sign, is going to be back on,” he said. “And what I’m asking for all of you to do is come.”
