Jerry Hall – what’s not to love? The iconic supermodel has served us decades of beauty and style inspiration, and is now lighting up the Celebrity Traitors castle with her charm and willingness to get wield a crowbar (Texans are ‘good with tools,’ drawled Hall)

While we eagerly watch Season 2 of the BBC phenomenon unfold, another aspect of Hall’s inner – and outer – sparkle has caught our eye. Her hair. That trademark long, blonde ‘do shimmers with health, so we’ve gone full ‘faithful on a warpath’ to investigate which of the best hair masks is responsible.

Luckily, we didn’t have to dig too far. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Hall spilt the tea on her makeup, hair and skincare secrets in her 70th year, including an unexpected hair treatment that usually rings un under £10.

“I’ve been dying my hair since I was about 14. I just do my roots, like every six weeks or so,” Hall explained, going on to share her take on how often you should wash your hair, and air drying tips, “Don’t wash it very often. I wash it every 10 days or something. I never use a blow dryer either, I just let it dry.”

Then came her secret weapon, not an ultra-luxury treatment, but an everyday kitchen staple you probably already own: “Every now and then, I soak it in oil, either olive oil or rosemary oil,” explained Jerry,

Not 100% sold on olive? Hall also referenced rosemary oil, which can help stimulate scalp circulation when massaged in to encourage healthy hair growth.

Applying oils to the hair is, of course, nothing new. Not only do the natural fatty acids in olive oil nourish dry hair, but they also temporarily ‘seal’ split ends for smoothness and help moisturise a dry, tight scalp.

And while many see scalp oil for hair growth as a recent trend thanks to various oils finding TikTok fame, this is a practice with its roots in Ayurvedic culture, where hair oiling is a traditional self-care ritual dating back centuries.

We’re all for a handy food-beauty crossover, but if you’d prefer to keep your routine separate, there are plenty of hair-specific treatments incorporating olive oil you could try instead.

Nourishing Hair Oil 20ml

A gorgeous offering from Beyonce’s highly-rated haircare line, this packs in olive plus another 12 natural oils including an African oil trio of baobab, moringa, and black seed.

Wondering how to use olive oil to nourish your hair without ending up with greasy, lank locks? This all comes down to hair type, but it’s always a good idea to start with damp, clean hair, so it’s as porous as possible.

If you have fine to medium hair, apply oil from the mid-lengths to the ends only, then wash it out after 10-15 minutes. Thicker hair types may want to leave it in overnight (wearing a bonnet will prevent stains on your pillowcase), and those with very thick, coarse or naturally textured hair could apply a few drops after washing instead of a leave-in conditioner, then blow-dry it into the hair.

Whatever works for you, this is an adaptable, affordable and beneficial treatment that’s well worth a go. If it’s good enough for Jerry Hall…
