A Hill Country winery has been named among the winners of this year’s Texas Vintners Cup, an annual competition awarding the best in the state.
Boerne’s Missick Cellars was one of 12 winners of the prestigious prize for its 2023 Petite Sirah, according to a news release. The winery is in its first season with a tasting room, located at 941 N. School St., off the Hill Country Mile.
The winery’s website describes its Petite Sirah as a “bold, inky, and juicy wine exhibiting the boldness of Texas.” Bottles are sold for $55 each.
Co-owners Chris and Laure Missick moved to Texas in 2023 after spending more than a decade producing wine in New York’s Finger Lakes region, according to the website.
“We moved here to make delicious wines that taste of this place,” Chris Missick said. “An honor like the Vintners Cup, this early in our Texas journey, provides public recognition to how seriously we take producing high-quality, 100% Texas wines.”
The Texas Vintners Cup was first held in 2021 by the Texas Department of Agriculture and its Uncork Texas Wines program. Wineries can enter an unlimited number of wines, which are judged by a blind panel. This year’s panel included wine journalist Jessica Dupuy and Master Sommeliers Jack Mason and Craig Collins.
This year’s winners were awarded Sept. 24 at the Preview Night of the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. During the ceremony, Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller presented each of the wineries with a custom Vintners Cup belt buckle made by Trailblazer Custom Silversmith in Stephenville.
Missick Cellars is a two-time award winner of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Wine Competition. The winery won the 2025 Double Gold Medal for its 2023 Dry Riesling and the 2026 Best in Class for its 2024 Viognier.
The winery holds 16 awards from its time in New York.
