SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – CAVA held its grand opening on Eddy Street today, one of more than 400 locations nationwide and the second in Michiana after a location opened in Mishawaka in June.
The restaurant’s concept allows customers to build their own greens and grains bowl or build their own pita, loaded with steak, lamb, falafel and other Mediterranean ingredients.
Lucas Gavrilescu, a CAVA customer, said he and a companion were drawn in by the restaurant’s opening-day atmosphere.
“We were just walking down the street looking for a place to eat, and we saw all these balloons and heard them shouting, ‘Welcome to CAVA,’ so we were drawn in,” Gavrilescu said.
Aziz Asadov, a CAVA customer originally from Turkey, said the food compared favorably to Mediterranean cuisine he grew up with.
“My family’s cooking is still better, but I’m originally from Turkey. So, a lot of the culture and cuisine are very similar. And this was really good. This is like something I would expect out of a Turkish restaurant in Turkey,” Asadov said.
Two customers visiting from Florida, both regular CAVA patrons, said this location topped every other one they’ve tried.
CAVA also recently launched its fall menu, including glazed salmon, harissa barbecue pita chips and a pomegranate apple drink.
