“I love working in the morning,” says Mr. Shimizu, the owner, who gained experience working at hotels and restaurants. “I wanted to run a breakfast spot, and I figured if I was going to do it, Kyoto was the place,” he explains. He opened his shop in the Okazaki area, which he had always loved, and named it “Matinée”—the French word for “morning.”

For the rice dish, we’re serving a risotto made with rapeseed flowers and mushrooms, topped with Tamba free-range chicken seared until the skin is crispy.

The casual French tasting menu, which incorporates traditional Japanese ingredients, features seasonal produce and offers a six-course meal ranging from soup to dessert. The menu is chef’s choice only, but guests with dietary restrictions, such as allergies, can discuss their needs in advance.
The restaurant features a large counter table, and natural light streams in through the arched windows. Enjoying breakfast in this cozy atmosphere is perfect not only for special occasions but also whenever you want to start your day off right. Since the breakfast course requires a reservation, please be sure to contact us in advance.
