Forty years ago, Israeli immigrants Avner and Amnon Gilady built an industrial kitchen behind their Mediterranean restaurant, Falafel King, on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall.

From that kitchen came the hummus and baba gannoush and, yes, falafel that supplied Falafel King locations in downtown Denver’s Republic Plaza and Tabor Center. The food later entered grocery stores, making the brothers millions and making Falafel King a well-known brand.

But more recently, the kitchen has been yet another thing for the feuding Giladys to fight over.
