So I was late for the movies and I quickly grabbed both an extra hot and reaper sandwich to try. I scarfed down the extra hot (with a little ranch just for flavor, don't roast me) and left the reaper in the car. The extra hot was nothing, barely a tingle. I got back out to my car after the movie (Other Mommy– decent horror flick, not worth a drive to the theater though), and I decided to start on the reaper before my drive home. I eat about half of it.
It's hot. It reminds me of the I Can't Feel My Face peppers flake mix from flatiron pepper, so a very decent burn, but not the hottest thing I've ever eaten, familiar territory, no worries. I finish about half the sandwich and decide to finish the rest at home.
As the drive goes the heat builds a little bit but then entirely dissipates over 10-15 minutes. So I think to myself, maybe I am really just a force of nature that cannot be reckoned with. Maybe I am just built different™.
Cut to me in my kitchen streaming tears down my face a couple bites into the already half-eaten sandwich. I don't know what happened. Maybe the spice was unevenly distributed, or maybe there's a sauce involved that I hadn't picked up on in the first half, but something was different. I was absolutely humbled. I fairly regularly cook with reaper and ghost pepper and use spice blends with those in there, I often ask for the hottest spice level at Indian and Thai places most often to be disappointed. And yet this unassuming American chicken shack has brought me down.
I finished the reaper, but it took a piece of pride from me I'll never get back.

That definitely sounds like uneven distribution on the burger.
My take on Dave’s Hot Chicken is that it’s very random. It changes depending on the workers, the location. Sometimes Reaper is mild and sometimes it’s the hottest thing I’ve ever had.
Yeah they are notorious for hot patches lol
Don’t eat of receipts it’s bad for you
It’s dusty af
Yeah Dave’s is notorious for being inconsistent when they apply reaper. 2 times ago I went and got a reaper and had a similar experience as this one, but the last time I went about 3-4 days ago I took a little nibble in the car on the way home and my whole face was lit up. Easily the spiciest food I’ve ever had from a restaurant. Ate about Half of it when I got home and was on the toilet probably 10+ times in the next 24 hours in some pretty uncomfortable pain.
Stop posting this. It’s not hot just a stomach pain. They do this on purpose.
Not good.
My spice tolerance is generally on the higher end. I’ve never tapped out from something commercial before (like fast food/hot sauces that aren’t homemade) I got like halfway through a reaper sandwich/tender combo and had to take a shower.
This is the third time ive seen this mentioned todsy. A youtuber I watch mentioned it off hand after people asked about what their favorite chicken place is, and I saw another post a few minutes ago. Sandwhich does look good though
I am just mostly disturbed by the timeline more than the spice. “Scarfed down… watch movie… eat half… go home… eat other half.” Bruh what? Just buy the second one fresh when you are done with a movie instead of what? Leaving it in a car? I am so concerned for literally everything outside od the spicy here.
Ive had it twice before last week and just ordered my third that im about to have. It gives me stomach cramps and makes my piss burn the next day but i love the taste and the pain idk whats wrong with me
Oh boy lol. Ya I had no idea what I was getting myself into with that either. On the bright side, I can say I braved it and survived 💪
I’m sorry if this is weird and out of topic, but receipts, thermal ones, are toxic even through touch and the fact that your burger is on top is quite concerning. What makes them toxic are BPA or BPS which are fat-soluble IIRC, and that would just aid in absorption of these chemicals which are carcinogenic.
Stay safe.
🥱
Bruh…
