COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream opened its first Columbia shop.
The city celebrated the newest location Thursday evening with an official grand opening.
The shop features at least 20 rotating flavors, including Bramble Berry Crisp and Gooey Butter Cake. The event had free scoops, merchandise for the first 50 in line, and a chance for five guests to win free ice cream for a year.
Mayor Daniel Rickenmann was present for the grand opening. He said the city wanted to open a location in Columbia for several years.
“We’ve been chasing Jenny’s for at least seven years to come here,” Rickenmann said. “It’s an incredible ice cream company. They get very involved in a community when they open a shop. The fresh ingredients in it, and it’s just, it’s a national sensation. So it draws people, right? We want things that draw people so that all these other businesses benefit as well.”
City leaders said the business’s opening is part of a larger push to draw more foot traffic to Bull Street and surrounding businesses.
The shop is at 2156 Pickens St. in the BullStreet District.
