“Empty Bowls” is Sunday at the MSOE Kern Center, benefitting local food pantries.
MILWAUKEE —
A soups and ceramics festival is helping fight food insecurity in Milwaukee.
“Empty Bowls” is happening Sunday at the MSOE Kern Center near Broadway & Knapp streets in downtown Milwaukee.
It’s a festival where guests buy handmade bowls from local artisans and try a variety of soup samples from local restaurants.
The event benefits the non-profit NourishMKE, which is Milwaukee’s largest network of food pantries.
“We’ve got four food pantries across the city of Milwaukee,” NourishMKE Executive Director Valerie MacMillan told 12 News’ Lakyra Banks. “Last year, we served a week’s worth of groceries to almost 70,000 people. So, all of the proceeds from this fundraiser go to support that food pantry network and help feed our neighbors.”
“Empty Bowls” is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
The fundraiser, which MacMillan says is in its 4th year, is free to attend.
Bowls are $15 or $30 each.
“This has just been an amazing way for us to connect with the community in a really fun way, where we get to use food to celebrate coming together for a good cause,” MacMillan said. “We have over 1,000 people that come out to this event every year, which just blows my mind.”
