SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
Authorities are investigating a shooting reported Saturday night at a Cook Out restaurant in Spartanburg.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said his office was contacted just after midnight on Nov. 1.
The coroner said his office was not called to the scene, located along John B. White Sr. Boulevard, but was requested at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The first victim was identified as 15-year-old Jayden Marek Watson of Hartnett Drive, Spartanburg. His time of death was listed as 12:04 a.m.
The second victim was identified as 17-year-old Shane Carter Dawkins of Thackston Drive, Spartanburg. His time of death was listed as 12:10 a.m.
Police say one other victim was injured in shooting and was transported to the hospital by a family member.
“I want to be totally clear,” Spartanburg Police Chief Littlejohn said, “that the young people here were not bad young people. They were just kids.”
This comes after a separate stabbing at another Cook Out restaurant in Greenville.
The coroner said autopsies will be performed to assist with the investigation.
Police say no suspects have been identified at this time.
“This is still a very active investigation for my agency and Spartanburg city,” Clevenger said. “I ask Spartanburg to keep family and friends of both these young men in your thoughts and prayers during their time of loss and grief.”
