Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Salt to taste
- Spice (half a teaspoon of mace optional)
- A small piece of butter (1 teaspoon)
- Flour enough to make a stiff batter (whole-wheat flour)
Approximately 2 dozen balls
Preparation
- Mix together until solid dough, then drop by teaspoonful into hot lard.
- The lard gives a pronounced flavor. Modern cooks would more happily use Crisco or corn oil.
