What an incredible wine! The background on this is that the blend is based on the original planting of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in Burgundy and named for Charlemagne’s wife – Hildegard. 50% Pinot Gris, 45% Pinot Blanc, 5% Aligoté. Varietals are aged separately for 2 years in 100% new French oak.

Pours a bright gold. Huge, beautiful aromas here. Lemon curd, vanilla, white flowers, tangerine, hazelnuts, bruised yellow apple. Full-bodied, rich, and luxurious on the palate. Subtle orange citrus, salted tangerine, pear. As the wine warms there is some additional lemon zest/pith. Long finish with medium acidity.

This is a $40 wine ($34 for club members!) that drinks like something far more expensive. Despite having no chardonnay this reminds me of a village Meursault from a top producer or even a good premier cru. This was an incredible surprise.
