I just got off a long travel day home with a 2.5 year old, and as soon as he went down I decided I earned a glass or two of wine.
Picked this 2020 Ayles “Cuesta del Herrero” Tinto Viño de Pago out of the wine fridge. I recently bought it after seeing it was super highly rated (Decanter scored it a 97 and Best in Show at the 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards) at a super affordable price (~$20).
50% Tempranillo, 30% Garnacha, 12% Merlot, 8% cab. A fun blend of Spanish and Bordeaux
Medium to full body, some good tannins, and on glass #3 (whoops!) and after being open for about 45 min – it is really a fun drink. Notes of plum, tobacco, and a real nice earthiness. It’s far more complex than a $20 bottle of wine should be. Absolutely terrific bottle and I am absolutely going to buy several more.
Happy Mother’s Day
