American Wagyu. It’s just a breed of cow. Not Kobe.

Harvested in the USA. I think Kobe beef can only come from Japan

“Born, Raised, and Harvested in the USA”
Kobe cattle can only be born in a specific region of Japan. Also there’s only 8 retailers for Kobe beef in the US and Heb is not one of them. And if they were it’d be a hell of a lot more than $40/lb.
Someone in their marketing department is just clueless

Its just a breed of cow and that there they are selling isnt even a good marbling score. You are better off getting non “Wagyu” prime.
When you hear people rave about it this is what they are talking about.
/u/dubiousN is mostly correct. HEB probably should not be using the “Kobe Beef” sign on the side.
However, the point made about this is correct:
> Wagyu is a breed, and there are absolutely American Wagyu cows.
Them advertising Wagyu is fine if the beef they are selling is at least a Wagyu crossbreed, as is often the case with American Wagyu. It is not Japanese A5 quality, though. It is, however, incredibly important to mention, Wagyu in itself is not an indicator of quality, it is only an indicator of a specific breed of cattle, similar to Hereford or Angus.
I wouldn’t personally pay $40/lb for that though.

Kobe is a region of Japan. Wagyu is a style/breed/etc of cow. It’s like the difference of sparkling wine or Champagne (a specific region of origin).

There are only a handful of places that can sell Kobe Beef. Look them up. Or look this place up.

It’s not worth the money. I got a Wagyu and a prime from H‑E‑B to test side by side and they were indistinguishable when cooked.

Kobe vs kobe

Looks like prime and not a great price

It’s American wagy, HEB gets most of their stuff from local breeders, and some of their “exotic” stuff from Snake River Farms.

Those fajitas are going to be tender as fuc, so juicy 🤤

American Wagyu is 50% Wagyu, 50% Angus
Get an American Wagyu and a non-Wagyu steak and cook both the same way. Put on a blindfold and see if you can tell the difference. Then you can decide if you wanna pay 50% more.

I was a H‑E‑B manager for the market. It’s the USA equivalent. We can’t legally call it Kobe. It’s very similar but it’s not going to be like a A5 ribeye. But they are amazing. If you are willing to splurge on the prime for the the waygu

The fat is concentrated in the center too, I don’t think that would cook very well

Kobe beef might be 3x the price per lb, depending on the grade

This is what authentic Kobe A5 looks like
Cross bred not Japanese wagyu
