Been vegan for 10 years … Woo! Can’t imagine eating animal based products (aside from the ones I’ve accidentally ate once in a blue moon 😅) (or if I ever get stranded on one of those pesky desert islands!)

I’m looking for ways to boost my energy. I really want to have energy on the level of a 20 year old, or, if I’m honest, someone like Joe Rogan (I don’t feel like hunting elk personally). I know it’s possible, I see people accomplishing so much every single day who are much older than me. Let me give you information you might find relevant:

– I am menstruating so my hormone levels are in the gutter. (I mainly want to combat this)
– I usually work out 2-4x a week but I really don’t want to today.
– I eat a 85% WFPB diet mostly with a few exceptions. Common staples are chickpeas/other beans, brown rice, smoothies, oat flour pancakes, stews, curries, soups, salads, plenty of healthy fats from nuts.
– I suppliment B12, vegan collagen builder, and omega 3’s. Iron supplements make me constipated, so I stay away from them.
– I am trying to not drink caffeine because it interferes with my sleep. I am a nutcase if I sleep less than 8 hours.
– I don’t drink alcohol or smoke weed or do any other recreational drugs.

I would love to start incorporating some of the Huberman methods of increasing dopamine (cold showers, sunlight and sunset every morning, a bunch of other crazy stuff) but I am just talking to you guys to see if there’s anything dietary related that I could try changing first.

Thank you!

Picture of a cook book I got recently that I really like. The juices and smoothies in it are much more practical than some of the meals I see in there.

Dr. Klaper has a YT video about nutrients that are sometimes missed or overlooked in the WFPB lifestyle, which can lead to fatigue. Iodine, for example. I’ve personally found selenium to be really helpful, I only take it once a week or so.

I’m wondering about the quality of your sleep. If you feel lethargic even after 8 hours a night, and if you can’t handle fewer hours, maybe you’re not fully resting at night? Do you have an activity tracker or watch that can give you some sleep insights?

I’d get your iron checked. If you’re low, experiment with the different iron pills until you find one that works for you. Personally, I was anemic and so fatigued, so I got an IUD to solve the “root cause” of the problem. Changed my life for the better.

How much fruit are you eating a day?

Even just one apple gives you more energy than a cup of coffee without the crash. Bananas can power a whole workout. Avocados are great energy boost too. I try to eat 1-2 of any of these a day and legit don’t even need coffee anymore.
