To Chef John and viewers, if you ever go to Puerto Rico, go to any "Panaderia" (basically a bakery) and try the "Media Noche" sandwich, they also sell cubano sandwiches there too. Also, find out where you can buy "Tripletas"; They are usually sold out of food trucks, and they are sandwiches with 3 different types of meat, usually ham, pork and beef. They also sell them in Orlando, FL. Go to google maps and search for "Munchies Boricuas in Orlando, FL" and that is one of the food trucks in that area. Exact address is 10495 S Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32837. They make good puerto rican food there. They also sell mofongo, alcapurrias, and other things sold from food trucks in PR. .
We use thin sliced smoked boston butt(homemade), cheap thin boiled ham, deli style swiss cheese, very good whole sliced kosher pickles + small amount of pickle juice drizzled on the cuban bread and a mixture of Hellman's and small amount of yellow mustard – nothing worse than a dry samwich. These are VERY tasty and popular – we've made 1000's of these. PS – butter the outside of the bread prior to pressing(flattening)
Omg I love Cuban sandwiches!! From the moment gossip girl mentioned them to the moment I had them at portos in LA, they are my favorite!!! So glad you could share this with us.
Oh Chef John- this just looks EPIC! All about that cheesy filling and the paper pork- this puts the apples I'm having for breakfast to shame- TO SHAME! 🙂
Chef John I loved the knife scraping on the crust of the sandwich. invoked "The Shower Scene" from Psycho was that deliberate after the "only a psycho wouldn't spread it right to the edge" comment? 😂
Please dont feed birds bread it provides birds with zero nutrition it does more harm than good its a proven fact so dont do it unless you like slowly killing birds
Chef John.i read your blog post about the stale-fresh cubans.Think the fresh one are more soft and airy than the stale ones that are more bready. So i think, fresh ones are the way to make a authentic Cuban.

Real Cubans aren't made with mayo. And the pork has to be marinaded in mojo. That's just an offshoot of the real thing

Sliced avocado would have kicked it up another notch. Yum…
Notice Chef John says 'Cuban bread', which makes the sandwich a Cuban sandwich rather than any old' ham and cheese sandwich. It's a must.
