Despite all the shortcuts, this cheater beef chili recipe is incredibly delicious, and the hazy IPA adds a certain something nobody will be able to figure out. As everybody knows, the most fun part of cheating is getting away with it. Enjoy!

  1. Looks good! My standard chili has been Chef John's from a few years ago. With some modifications of course. But I've tried it with beer and without, and couldn't detect a difference. So I don't use beer any longer.

  2. I've made chili like this before but it does occur to me that it never got as good as when I added in beer. This is reminding me to do that again

  3. I like a nice mix of beans. Pinto, dark red kidney, black, beans, and sometimes chili beans just because they have added flavor. Then a plethora of peppers like poblano, jalapeno, bell pepper, and habanero when Im feeling spicy. Hazy IPAs are always a great addition though

  4. That's the magic of chili. Your version will not be my version and both will probably taste AWESOME. I think I got some good tips from this video… thanks!

  5. Was not expecting Chef John to be familiar with the Charlie Brooker universe – Philomena Cunk is known outside the UK!?

  6. this looks interesting and should taste nice; though chillis are never that taxing so I would probably look to find fresh onions, chillis and red pepper myself as theyd surely be better for you. Also sugar in a chilli is something I dont tend to do and that was a LOT of sugar.

  7. This was fire. thank you. I use medium salsa in my meatloaf, I never thought about this though, and I usually use Guinness in my chilli but the ipa was awesome. Hard to believe being I dont really like ipa

  8. Oh No ! I HATE beer ! I will use beef stock. For me- gotta be Kidney Beams (my fave) in rich sauce ( Friend's or B&M in these parts.)

  9. Not all of the steam is water. Surely there is some alcohol in your hazy IPA.😇. That sounds and looks amazing!❤️

  10. Loved it! I made it. And 10 minutes ago I just finished my first bowl. Excellent. I'd love to leave a great review and 5 stars at AllRecipes, but I'm not logging in with my email and password, are you kidding me? AR doesn't need to know my email username and password.

  11. I made this late last night. I was tasting it along the way and man i thought i might have slightly overdone it with the heat🌶️. I was wondering how to go about🧯 Well let me tell ya. Let that baby rest overnight and it was all magical flavors and goodness. This is now my favorite chilli recipe ❤️😋
Yes, I absolutely paired it with the Corn cake. That balanced the meal very nicely.
Thank you so much chef John(💋kissthecook)

  12. I was able to make this with items I had on hand, I used some ground turkey that I had in the freezer for a while and I wanted to move along. Beef would have been better, but it was still damned good.

  13. Unlike 99% of Americans, Chili Con Carne was completely unknown to me as a small boy in England until a couple of American kids joined our English school in 1973. When we stayed over at their place one weekend, their Mom made this wonderful new dish for all of us that I had never heard of before. I have zero recollection of whether it was spicy or not, but I figure it must have been.

Even now, almost exactly 50 years later, I can still remember peering in the pot and looking at something that was just like that at 5:14, and asking her what it was. I can even remember that first smell – I wonder how she managed to find the ingredients in 1970s England.

If Hal and Scot’s mom is still alive, she must be well into her 80s by now. I would like to thank her for that introduction to Chili Con Carne.

Obviously, as a Brit, I entirely approve of the use of IPA, one of England's gifts to the World (that Americans appear to have refined and improved – grrrr)
