If you haven’t made homemade stock before, you can’t imagine the difference between it and the store-bought version. That difference shines in chicken noodle soup – which I’m going to show you how to make in this episode of Basics.

  1. I made it but I burnt the stock ):

It didn't cure cancer and world hunger like I hoped. I give my rendition maybe a 6.5/10.
    Oh well, next time.

  2. Can that stock be made without the chicken into a vegetable stock? Would anything else need to be added as a replacement?

  3. Celebrity cooks are always trying to save us from mushy soup noodles. I like mushy soup noodles. That's part of the experience.

  4. Just want to add I've been making this a few times a year since this recipe came out and do a turkey version at christmas using up the legs that no one really likes in my family. It really does work miracles and is perfect for cold winter days. Game changer. I tinker with the recipe from time to time adding some heat but the original is a classic, great with a nice fresh sourdough loaf.

  5. What do you do with the chicken and vegetable from when you made the stock? Can it be eaten or does it get thrown away?

  6. One of my favorite all-time foods of all time was Chicken and Wild Rice soup. 2nd favorite was anything braised or from a crockpot.

  7. I tried this with diced white meat, and now I'm eating it with shredded thighs instead. And I can confirm, it is simply just better.

  8. My mom was uncertain when I told her I’d be making chicken soup from scratch, but when she took a bite she said it was “the BEST soup I’ve ever had” the chicken was so soft and all the herbs were delicious! Thanks for another amazing recipe Babish!!

  9. I use wing tips in my stock. I normally buy chicken wings in large quantities, break them down and freeze them into smaller portions. Normally leaves me with a ton of wing tips.

My last one I used wing tips and Turkey wings (they were cheap) and I got a beautiful stock out of it.

    Don’t waste your scraps peoples

  10. I was already confident in your judgment previous to watching this video, but my goodness you have exceeded expectations on this. Did everything you said (forgot lemongrass) truly the best soup I’ve ever had. Thank you so much!

  11. Thanks, now I finally know what to do with stock! I’ve watched this video about all kinds of skills people should have in the kitchen and it taught me how to do stock. But you take everything out and you’re left with nothing but the liquid. It sounds silly but I was so confused how this would be turned into a soup. This video is amazing and your style of bringing everything across made me subscribe instantly. Stock might be liquid gold but your channel seems like… channel gold 🥹

  12. This is the one. As a half Asian/ half European guy I was trying to make a western style all in one chicken soup but I wanted some freshness from Asian elements like ginger and lemongrass in there too without having to have all bits and pieces to serve like you would with Thai soups. I basically did exactly the same thing even down to the size of the fresh vegetables(not stock ones), parsnip and turnip. I just needed an expert to suggest the addition of lemongrass, as I already had ginger. Next time I might roast the chicken and mirepoix vegetables for the broth to see how it changes. I feel like it will be deeper and richer but might take away from the cleanness of this recipe. This is the one.

  13. Ya know I prefer homemade chicken noodle soup by a large margin

Not just because of flavor although that certainly helps but also because the canned stuff goes right through me

    Certain brands anyway
