Chef is holy ground for film foodies, and as demonstrated in a previous episode, has some real culinary chops behind it (courtesy of Roy Choi). I love a good Cubano as much as the next guy, but can some garlic and citrus really elevate my favorite hangover snack into something worthy of a What-About-Bob-Style “mmm”-fest?

  1. This recipe has been my favorite since I saw it on here. Really took me back to my days in Key West with family and it's a hit every year when I make it for the holidays. Can't thank you enough Babish!

  2. Fun fact: these sandwiches are not from Cuba, but are actually from western and northern Florida. And they are supposed to feature pepperoni. But when the sandwich migrated to Cuba itself, pepperoni was too expensive and uncommon for most and was omitted. When the Cuban immigration during the 70s and 80s introduced this to a wider audience, the original sandwich was forgotten and the Cuban version became the default.

  3. As a cuban friend once told me: "So, you're saying that there's a sandwich that has more stuff in it than what I've seen in my entire life?"

  4. For starters that's not Cuban bread, secondly, there is no salami present on that sandwich, therefore it is NOT A REAL CUBAN SANDWICH. That is a Medianoche.

  5. You stayed pretty true to a traditional cuban but keep the skin on the pork and make some chicharron. You won't regret it.

  6. Shouldn’t you be dancing while doing this? Lol (fans of the film will know what I mean)

  7. it pains me for the 10% thats hates cilantro. To me it takes like a combination of herbs and grassy and mint hint of lime and just wakes the pallet.

  8. My Food For Watch Channel was attacked and shut down. Hard to put them together again. So many people just love your food and then chem it on me. Really want a Cubanos for the moment. We don't have real Cubano in our country. Nice work!

  9. I love Chef. It’s legitimately one of my favorite movies. If I ever met Jon Favreau I’d compliment his work on Chef over his work on Iron Man, as Happy Hogan, and The Mandalorian.

  10. Just watched the movie. Really liked it. Im going to try an authentic Cuban cafe near where I live.

  11. I can't believe this videos 6 years old, I feel like I just watched this last week. They're still so soothing to watch and be apart of.

  12. Cool that you called this a "Cubano", thereby acknowledging that this isn't an authentic Cuban Sandwich, which originated Tampa in the late 1800s. This is more like the sub/hoagie/hero that somebody in Miami came up with like 80 years later. (For a real Cuban Sandwich, you're missing the 3rd meat, used the wrong bread and didn't assemble the sandwich in the right order. All of which affects the flavor and end result.)
