If you’ve ever been to an Italian gelateria (especially in the south), you know that the experience is a little bit more than simply grabbing an ice cream cone. They craft all kinds of incredible desserts using gelato! Decadent ice cream sandwiches, “truffles” of stuffed ice cream, and Italian ice cream cakes are just a few examples.

Today, Eva shares how to make gelato at home plus a handful of our favorite gelato-based desserts. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Oh, and that reminds us: we’ve brought on a special guest to explain the technical difference between gelato and ice cream 👨🏻‍🍳

  1. I went to Venice, and one shop that was away from the tourist section had a gelato with a Nutella swirl!! That was the BEST 'ice cream' I've ever had (The one and only gelato I've ever eaten)!

  3. Gelato con brioche? Is this not on par with the profitaroles? Or is this something entirely different? My wife was raised in Toscana, but her family is from Sicily. She's not a great chef like your wife, but she does whip up a mean lasagna or a tiramisu when she is inclined.

  5. I have that model ice cream maker and I love home made ice cream, however, the container has to be frozen for at least 18 hours before you can make it. My freezer always has to much stuff in it to leave any room for the container!! Hate that.

  7. The most amazing gelato I had was in Firenze; melon/cantaloup gelato. I bought two, one for each hand…

  8. I came up with this recipe for a refreshing treat that i call GELAT-OH! In a blender i put cottage cheese (4%), cream cheese, whole milk. That's my base, i love strawberry so i add a little strawberry preserves, organic protein powder (strawberry), coconut flakes and sometimes i throw in a few chocolate fudge cookies if i want to spoil myself., Blend all that together then i finish it with frozen strawberries that add nice little pieces to the mix. Put in cups and freeze. You can put whatever flavors you like in the mix. Way better than anything store bought! I don't have an ice cream maker but i'm sure that would work well. Let it sit out for a bit until it begins to soften then MANGARE!

  11. Oh yes, one of the first deserts my Italian friend made for me. Affogato al Caffe, she put a drop of Amorreto with it pure bliss.
