If you have been with me for any length of time, you know that Jane’s Krazy Mixed up salt is one of my favorite all purpose seasonings. I have a mason jar of it on the back of my stove. The jar has been emptied and instead of buying it I thought I would try and put together my own. Since the label says only “herbs, spices, salt, onion and garlic”, I knew It was not going to be easy going trying to figure out what is in there. But I have developed a great blend that I think is just as good or exceeds the flavor of the original. I love being able to throw my own blend together an all purpose blend like this using what I have on hand. I bet most of you have these things on your spice rack or spinner, just waiting to be used!

There seems like a lot of ingredients, but truthfully you could make this and use up the ends of spice containers that you have stacked in your cupboard. Be honest, you have one of those cabinets. I have one too. The one where you shove all the random spices that you bought for one recipe or the various extracts, baking powder, baking soda, extra coffee sugar, kosher salt etc. My cabinet is due for an overhaul and that may well be another video. But take a look and see if you have some of these ingredients. If not, use what you have, mix it up add or take away and it will still be great.

I have used a blend of Kosher salt, but you could easily use table salt, canning salt, sea salt or Himalayan pink salt if you like. If you are on a salt restricted diet, you could use “lite salt” as well to make this a lower sodium option.

I have blended together a great mix of different herbs and spices that all carry their own weight in this blend. cracked black pepper, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, marjoram, dill, celery seed, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder all have their place.

Honestly, I came very close to the original. I will be making this version from now on. It is delicious and perfect to enhance just about anything but my favorite thing to sprinkle this on is a fried egg or mixed into scrambled eggs. I also love it sprinkled on top of a bagel spread with whipped cream cheese. It is just delicious. Use it anywhere from steamed veggies to grilled meats. This blend is as all purpose as you can get!

I hope you give my super savory salt a try and I hope you love it!

Happy Eating!

  2. I LOVE Jane's Crazy Mixed Up Salt, but in my area, it is impossible to find, and it is VERY EXPENSIVE on Amazon, — as is Jane's Crazy Mixed Up Pepper, and her Chunky Garlic Seasoning blend (my favorite), so I will definitely give your recipe a try. Thank you!

  3. I love Janes Mixed Up Salt, but only one grocery store in my area carries it. We love using it on eggs as well as many other dishes. Thanks for the recipe! I will be making this as gifts for the holidays.

  4. Just had to tell you. Couldn't find Jane's anywhere around me so I made this. Then a friend found Jane's at one store and picked one up for me. I was able to compare the two, side by side. They smelled and tasted exactly the same. You did nail it! Making yours again today.

  5. Thanks so much for sharing. I share this with everyone. It's so good on everything we cook. We put ours in an old spice shaker, so it comes out perfect. Love your channel!

  6. I really like your videos but when trying to write down a recipe it’s impossible. Girl you are are a fast talker! I finally had to put you on slow motion since there wasn’t a print out but I got it, thanks.

  7. Thank you for this recipe. I looked it up again, because I’m nearly out of my last batch.
