  1. My mother’s family used to make pepper sauce with green tomatoes, onions, hot peppers vinegar and salt. They canned it in quart sized jars. Now that I’ve remembered how much I liked it, I think I’ll make some. 😀 I just remembered another way my mom used green tomatoes. She diced and mixed green tomatoes to cut okra. She battered and fried them together. And now I want that too. lol

  2. My wife and I made a big batch of fried green tomatoes tonight for the first time, and we made your onion relish to accompany them. We did use a bit of cornmeal on the tomatoes, but followed that relish recipe to a tee and let me say, that relish would be delicious on just about anything breaded and fried: fish, onion rings, zucchini, okra, chicken tenders and maybe even hush puppies. Loved it. So good. Thank you from a couple of countrified New Yorkers.

  3. That looks great. Has anyone tried a topping for fried green tomatoes with horseradish in it?

  4. Green tomatoes
Chow chow pickles make these every year so good for meat dishes or right out of the bottle

  5. I have seen this video a thousand times but never watched it. So glad I did today! I have been frying green tomatoes for a while but using cornmeal also. I was looking for a recipe that doesn't use cornmeal and I can't wait to try this. My family doesn't like them much with cornmeal and neither do I so thank you for sharing Paula 😍.

  6. No oil burns at 325F. Welcome to the 21st. Century. Any oil is fine, no high temp processed hexane oil.

  7. Searching for "fried green tomatoes." Came upon Paula Deen's video. No need to look at any other videos!

  8. Hello Ms. Paula How are you. I use to watch you all the time. How are you and your 2 sons. I just started my own youtu.be channel last month. But my Fried Green Tomatos showed up not far from yours. I have a couple good recipes from my Mom. I wanted to do this in memory of Mattie. Please if you have a minute send me an encouraging word. Love you still.

  9. I need to know where to FIND green tomatoes! Grew them while growing up, but now have moved to city. Only farm stands I'm aware of sell corn & baskets of berries. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  10. Has anyone ever tried a smoked version of these? Just a thought. My mother and her Alabama kinfolk always fry these in corn meal; great with fried fish and a side of cole slaw. Yum!

  11. 12. For those that don't want pre-blended ingredients needlessly taking up cupboard space, "self rising flour" is:
1 cup all-purpose flour or pastry flour(weaker, less protein than A-P)
    1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/4 teaspoon fine table salt
Stir well and run it through a sifter 2-3 times to get it good and evenly blended.
