Iron Chef Spicy Shrimp Cocktail
RECIPE COURTESY OF GEOFFREY ZAKARIAN
Level: Easy
Total: 1 hr 15 min (includes chilling time)
Active: 15 min
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Shrimp:

2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
1 pound (16/20) shrimp, head-on if possible, thawed if frozen, peeled and deveined with tails on
Lemon wedges, for garnish

Sauce:

1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon Thai sweet chile sauce
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Dash of hot sauce, such as Tabasco

Directions

For the shrimp: In a large saucepan of water, add the bay leaves and black peppercorns. Bring to a boil. Line a sheet pan with paper towels.

For the sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, chile sauce, Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.

Add the shrimp to the water and cook at a very low simmer, stirring, until the centers are fully cooked and no longer translucent, about 3 minutes. Transfer the shrimp to the lined sheet pan. Chill for an hour before serving.

Serve the shrimp with the cocktail sauce and lemon wedges.

  1. 4:04 “You saw the horseradish. It’s not too much.” Actually it is. Both Alex and Jeff said so. And even if I didn’t believe them, the expression on his face after he takes a bite tells me all I need to know. I wouldn’t serve this to guests unless I hated them.

  2. As if an Iron chef is asking about shrimp sizes like she doesn't know 🤣

  3. Gave zero reason why he didn't use salt, and said "end of story." No Geoffrey, that's not how it works. If you knew why you weren't using salt, you should have told the rest of us. Go sit in the corner and count to 100.

  4. I just went and bought shrimp Bc of this video lol i’m ready to try this new method (not frozen shrimp tho sorry Geoffrey)

  5. Did the tin foil queen actually just say he was saving a cup of water to save the planet? Precious petite prince.

  6. why is he boiling it? It he going for a healthier approach? You could fry it in butter with a touch of parsley and garlic. Dip in mayo+ketchup. Same time and effort, better results, no fridge required.

  7. i never thought GZ would allow a paper towel to touch his food.

  8. It's kinda frustrating that the recipe on the show is fundamentally different from the one linked on food tv. Lame.

  9. so bold! Being lazy cooking shrimp. Dust with salt and a little baking soda. sousvide @137F- Steakhouse shrimp cocktail. Nevermind this guys BS about small shrimp.. Use Colossal.
