Beef stew is the BEST hearty and satisfying meal! Chunks of beef chuck roast are seared until golden, then simmered with vegetables and herbs in a rich and savory broth that’s complex in flavor but really simple to make. The whole family will love it!

Stews are good for the soul — and this traditional beef stew recipe from my childhood is no exception. It’s like another version of my Dad’s favorite Irish lamb stew, but with delicious elements of pot roast. The beef chunks are melt-in-your-mouth, the vegetables become tender, and the red wine, tomato-y broth continues to build flavor as it simmers. Plus, my house is filled with the most delicious, savory aroma whenever I make this beef stew. I think you’re going to love it as well!

  1. So now I have a classic beef stew, Irish lamb stew, and apple cider beef stew (in my cookbook!). What flavor should I make next? I'm sorta thinking a vegetarian sweet potato stew. Any other ideas?? xo – Lisa

  2. Very tasty and beautiful. I will cook for my family tonight.. Making warm and healthy soul 😍😙. Thanks Chef ❤

  3. I love this and your veggie soup recipes… perfect for this time of the year. I’ve tried many of your recipes and the flavor been fantastic. Thanks for all the research and hard work.. of course I appreciate you sharing these recipes so that myself and others can enjoy 🧡🍲🍁

  4. Could you do a. Idea on chicken soup. I always go out to wholefoods when I’m sick and buy chicken noodle soup. I don’t like chicken soup that taste like chicken. I like to taste the veggies and broth if that makes sense

  5. I'm still working through garden surplus and have made veggie-beef with barley, split pea, a ginger cabbage soup with ground pork, minestrone and spicy chicken enchilada soup in recent weeks. This classic beef stew is another favorite 🎉thanks for the inspiration

  6. Love beef stew! Peeling veggies is a must for me, whether carrots or potatoes! I love adding peas to mine. It’s a great pop of bright green! I always add canned stewed tomatoes too. I find the tomato paste is enough of a thickener for mine, though I do use much more than you did—the entire small can!

  7. Is the tomato paste necessary and if so is there an alternative ingredient that isnt a nightshade? Will removing the potatoes change the consistency? Sorry, I've never made a beef stew or any stew so any advise is appreciated.

  8. Omg!! This is the one to make as the weather gets a nip in it… Who here wishes they could be Lisa's neighbor? 🖐🖐

  9. The pro tips of my french mom, is to put only red wine, not broth. And I assure you, it is so good ! And we usually prick an onion with 4 or 5 cloves 😀 We call that '' Boeuf bourguignon'' 😀
And for the frenchy but not healthy touch, replace the oil by butter at the begining 😀

  10. My mother's stew. Highly recommended. My mother added one tea-spoon sweet red pepper along with the onions. Sometimes she skipped potatoes and served them with fried ones. In this case, she preferred less liquid in the stew.

  11. Mine came out more like pot roast for some reason, not a stew. The broth wasn't rich like in the video. I had to add extra flour to it because it was runny, thus it became lighter in color. I don't know what happened.

  12. I love Lisa always takes big bite of her food but still being elegant. ❤

  13. Yes yes yes that's how you whip it!!! That girl can throw down!!! Very nice darling you are an amazing CHEF sweetheart now my mouth is really watering 🤗😍👍🌹😀❤❤❤❤❤❤🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒🤒
